Wednesday Listening Volume 1

24 Oct 18 14:03 EDT

The first in a hopefully long series.

The life of a remote worker can be a little lonely at times. I like to search around and find new bands to listen to while I work. The hope is to keep this going for a while.

Desert Sessions (ft. Josh Homme and PJ Harvey) - I Wanna Make It Wit Chu

Two of my favorite vocalists playing one of my favorite songs off of one my favorite albums. There’s nothing to dislike here. Homme is awesome as always. The only thing is that PJ’s mic is a little low in this cut.

Monster Magnet - Powertrip

Had to reach way back for this one. I’m convinced that MM was one of the reasons metal saw a resurgence in the 2000s.

The Sword - How Heavy This Axe

The Sword is what happens when Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult have an illegitimate love child. It’s awesome that the metal sound from the 70’s is still alive and well.

Marissa Nadler - All the Colors of the Dark

Folk/indie usually isn’t my thing but Marissa’s voice is so hauntingly delightful and mesmerizing it’s hard not to enjoy this. The lyrics are complex and deep and gets into your head in a good way. Definitely adding her to the rotation.

Mastodon - High Road

Local badasses Mastadon never disappoint. The old man trips me up. Lightning bolt!

Bonus: Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio

The guitarist has a Freddy King look going. These guys are awesome.
